Beginning in 1999, the Algona Founders’ Day quickly became a tradition honoring the two men who founded the community. On July 10, 1854, brothers, Asa C. Call, and Ambrose A. Call, noted the beauty of the location overlooking the river and the bluffs beyond, with a fine grove of timber to the North and South. Asa said, “Ambrose, I believe this is the place for our city.”
A joint City of Algona & Algona Chamber of Commerce celebration, Founders’ Day is a celebration for all ages. Many school and family reunions are planned around the event as it grows each year.
The Algona Founders Day Celebration is made possible each year by many sponsors and volunteers, and the Algona Chamber of Commerce and City of Algona thank each of them for their contribution.
